Thank you for your interest in our Counselor in Training (CIT) Program.  Continue reading for further information!

Our CIT program is an educational and exciting multi-week leadership experience that is now open to students who will be entering 12th grade.  This program provides a balance of independence in learning and direct mentorship from our staff to teens.

Goals and Purpose of Colman Counselor in Training Program

Through the Counselor in Training Program at Camp Colman, CITs will:

·         Begin to understand and experience the overall management of campers
·         Learn how to facilitate group activities and put facilitation skills into practice
·         Understand the four core values and be able to teach the importance of each to campers
·         Gain information about how to deal with camper behavioral issues
·         Gain an understanding of leadership styles
·         Work with fellow CITs to plan campfires, all-camp games, initiatives, and value circles
·         Learn about Camp Colman traditions
·         Experience Child Abuse Prevention training along with many other trainings that our counselors go through
·         Gain knowledge of how to deal with bullying and homesick campers
·         Gather a tool belt of information to take into future leadership positions
·         Have the opportunity to shadow counselors in a cabin setting
·         Build appropriate relationships with other CITs, counselors, campers, and staff
·         Have a fun and memorable experience to reflect on and learn from

    1. It states in the cover-letter that CIT forms can be sent by mail to:

      YMCA Camping Services
      Attn: Alicia Hogl
      909 4th Avenue
      Seattle, WA 98104

      Hope this helps :)
